Nothin’ Beats a Good Day on the Water!!

We all love to get out in the boat and chase fish and enjoy the outdoor experience.  In June 2006, our family upgraded the old Skeeter bass boat with a new Skeeter WX-1880 which is much more “family friendly”.  Samantha has become daddy’s fishing buddy and Sydney is getting old enough now to get serious about her fishing!  Jill is anxious to get the fishing started for 2008 as she too enjoys putting fish in the boat, I think wipers are her favorite.

Sam & Syd were introduced to pond fishing last summer by our good friends Rob and Sally.  They had a great time catching largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish and the action was FAST.

This page includes a “photo diary” of our recent fishing adventures and we will be adding new pictures SOON!!  If you can’t catch us on the phone...we are probably GONE FISHING!!!

Fishing Johnson Style

September 2007 we all went to Rob and Sally’s in NE Kansas.  They put Sam and Syd in the middle of some very good pond fishing action.  The girls had a great time and the weather was PERFECT!!

During the summer of 2007, Sam was initiated to slab spooning for whites and wipers at El Dorado Reservoir.  We had some pretty good outings during August and September but we will definitely be starting on this pattern earlier in 2008.  Sam’s favorite saying in 2007 was “FISH ON”!!!

Jill and I were fishing for walleye when the wipers kept picking up Jill’s jig.  It was easy to tell when Jill had one by the screaming drag and Jill’s screaming!  Man, those wipers sure can pull!  The wipers are pushing over 22-inches long at El Dorado so 2008 should be a lot of fun.

Syd and Sam are always willing to pose for pictures and help Dad clean fish.  Here they are posing with a couple of early spring walleye which made for a wonderful dinner!

Here is Sydney’s favorite place to ride in the boat  I think she likes the cool wind when it’s hot outside, but this isn’t a preferred location when the temperatures drop!

Sam is a dedicated fisherman.  She puts in her time and has a lot of patience when looking for the “big one”!  Smiles are easy to come by out on the lake.

Late summer slab spooning for whites and wipers is a team effort!!

Here’s Sydney proudly displaying her white crappie she caught during early Fall 2007.

Sometimes just being on the lake is good enough.  Enjoying the scenery and the quiet while soaking in nature.  Watching the wildlife and listening to the water can be very relaxing.

Patience pays off.  A little planning and a little luck puts fish in the boat!

Sam is refining her photography skills so she will be able to take pictures of those trophy fish when they are brought in to the boat.

Fishing can be hot even though the temperatures are cold.  White bass fishing can be good all winter long as it was during this early December trip.

There are some BIG fish in Kansas waters.  Even though this fish was not taken by hook and line, it was VERY exciting to see a fish of this size.

Here is Craig’s largest walleye to date from El Dorado Reservoir.  This fish was 27 inches in length and weighed 7.7lbs.

It just doesn’t get any better than a good day on the water……...
